When English Heritage restored Eltham Palace we were asked to reproduce this 1930's electric heater, using for reference archive photographs of Virginia Courtauld's bedroom. The framework of the fire was made from cut steel and bent to form the curled shape. The 'coal effect' on the top of the fire was cutting edge at the time of original manufacture - we reproduced it by modelling and moulding the coal, then casting it in fibreglass resin and painting it. Inside are two electric light bulbs with spinners attached, to recreate the flickering flame effect.
