Wax

Client: rupertharris

Location: Glossary

A chemically complex coating material widely used because of its solubility in mild solvents, its protective properties, and its ease of manipulation from matte to glossy. There are naturally occurring waxes (such as beeswax and carnauba) and synthetic waxes. Hot wax is generally used to describe a treatment of bronze sculptures in which the metal is heated to drive out entrapped moisture immediately after which wax at ambient temperature is applied to the hot metal surface.
