Tin pest, tin disease

The deterioration of tin caused by a change in the crystal structure at low temperatures (below 56F, 13C) from tetragonal white tin to diamond cubic grey tin. Grey tin occupies considerably more volume than white tin and thus the transformation can cause the deterioration of a tin object.
