Dry: Henry Corts process for making wrought iron from cast iron by stirring in a reverbatory furnace.
Wet (or pig boiling): Joseph Halls improvement (c.1830) of Corts dry process in which the hearth was lined with cinder and millscale fluidising the charge, (hence wet), thereby increasing decarburising efficiency.
