Niello

A black inlay material with a metallic lustre, made of silver sulphide or a mixture of silver, copper, gold, and/or lead sulphides. Niello is usually fused with heat into grooves cut into a metal surface; the surface of the niello and metal substrate is then finished with abrasives.
