Inherent vice

Client: rupertharris

Location: Glossary

The employment, in constructing a work of art, of materials or techniques that will later destroy the object or seriously deteriorate it in conditions of normal use. Torch brazing with fluxes, for example, can incorporate the flux into the joints, which will later form sites for corrosion. Similarly, iron armatures and pins in a bronze sculpture will set up galvanic couples and the iron will corrode.
