In binary alloys, the composition with the lowest melting point. The eutectic is a fixed composition in binary alloys and is often a fine intermixture of two phases. A eutectic reaction is a reversible, isothermal transformation in which, during cooling, a single liquid phase is transformed into two or more solid phases. The temperature at which the freezing occurs is known as the 'eutectic temperature', while the composition of the liquid phase is called the 'eutectic composition'. In general, an alloy of the eutectic composition freezes at a minimum temperature for that alloy system.
