Engraving

Client: rupertharris

Location: Glossary

A decorative technique in which metal is removed by cutting into the surface with such tools as gravers, burins, or scorpers. The typical engraved line has a tapered lead-in (where the graver digs gradually into the metal) and an exit (where the graver leaves the metal) or an abrupt end (where the chip raised by the graver is broken off).
