Electroplating

The act or process of depositing metal from a solution of one of its salts onto a surface using an electrical current. Developed in the early nineteenth century, patented by G.R. Elkington in 1840. By 1850 had replaced the use of Sheffield Plate (by 1852 there was only one workshop remaining making Sheffield Plate).
