A Conservator is a specialist with advanced training in the arts and sciences relating to the theoretical and practical aspects of object conservation and who is capable of supervising, advising, and practising the three functions of conservation, which are: technical examination, restoration, and preservation. The term 'Restorer' is an older term that preceded the current designation for 'Conservator'. The term 'Restorer' is still used in the vernacular and in other countries, e.g. Restaurateur (France), Restauratore (Italy).
