Accretion

An accumulation of extraneous materials on the surface of a buried artifact, a sculpture, or monument. It may include core materials, deposition of insoluble or soluble salts (e.g. stalagmites, efflorescence), or even the heavy accumulation of dirt, grime, pollutants or bird droppings.
