Galvanic series

Client: rupertharris

Location: Glossary

A list of metals and alloys arranged according to their relative corrosion potentials in a given environment. This series differs from the 'electromotive force series' in that it can reflect steady state values as well as reversible values and thus includes alloys and pure metals with passivating oxide films. A common galvanic series is that for sea water, a selection from which is given below for commonly used materials:

Magnesium (most active)
Zinc
Aluminium
Iron
Lead
Tin
Nickel
Brass
Copper
Silicon bronze
Stainless steel (least active)
